Elkology is a project of Elkpen, a Los Angeles artist.

elk-ol-o-gy: n. 1. the branch of visual thinking dealing with the relations and interactions between organisms and their environment.

I use public space to frame images that talk about the state of nature of urban places. By placing a sign in a public space as a subject for photography I am hoping to bring an immediacy and context to the topics I am talking about. I think it also points to what we expect to see in our environment, what we overlook, and what we take for granted.
